About Us

Mahj is having a major moment. And we love that for mahjong, but we’re starting to feel a little left out. Sure, we love the modern mahj momentum. The vibrant tiles, the colorful mats, and the gorgeous tablescapes make women PAUSE and say, “I want to learn that game!”

But before the modern, there was us. There were our great-grandmothers, grandmothers, aunts, mothers, sisters and friends sitting around a mahjong table in the Catskills, the Poconos, and the Lower East Side, sharing jokes (kibitzing), snacking (noshing), and of course girl talk (yenta-ing)!  They passed the game down from generation to generation, or as we say, L’dor v’dor

We are so proud of our Jewish connection to the game of mahjong. But as we watch the popularity and commercial success of the game rise, our part of the story needs to be included. It is crucial now, more than ever that we shout from the rooftops MAHJONG with a side of MAZEL! We must recognize and honor the rich history of mahjong among Jewish American Women. It’s time to bring the Mazel back to Mahjong, and it starts with us.

Mahjong didn’t start with us. And it won’t end with us. We’ll continue to kibitz (chat) and nosh (snack) with our friends around the mahjong table and pass our beautiful tiles down to our grandchildren along with our stories.
